Under the theme ‘Parliament Synergizing Youth in Law Making’, the Kenya Civil Society Strengthening Programme conducted a Youth training workshop, facilitated by Africa Youth Trust’s PSYLM team. Week 1: Youth and Access to Justice Participants assessed the laws in place in relation to accessing justice in Kenya. They suggested reforms needed to reform the deficiencies in the laws they identified, to ensure that the youth have proper avenues of accessing justice. Week 2: Youth and Employment Participants, representing all the provinces in Kenya, Muslims and the disabled, proposed amendments in the labour laws in place currently in Kenya. This was with a view to ensuring that the youth have equal opportunities in employment, and are not subjected to unfair practices. Week 3: Youth and Local Governance The youth assessed the role of local government in development, since it is an avenue through which they can participate in policy making. Amendments to the current laws were proposed through a memorandum, which will be presented to the relevant departmental committee of parliament.
