The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MOYAS) has extended the deadline for the National Youth Council Elections voter registration which was initially re-scheduled to 30th April 2011. Registration is now scheduled to end on 7th May 2011. According to MOYAS records, over 1.3 million youths had been registered by the eve of Easter holidays.

The National Youth Council Elections at Sub-location to Provincial level are scheduled for 16th May, 2011 to 17th June, 2011. The National Delegates Forum and National Youth Congress shall be held on 23rd and 24th of June 2011 respectively. This was confirmed after the gazettement of the National Youth Council Election guidelines in February 2011.

The National Youth Council will among other functions mobilize, sensitize and organize the youth of Kenya under one umbrella for political, economic and socio-cultural activities, gainfully engage the youth in activities that are beneficial to them and the nation at large as well as act as a voice and bridge to ensure that the Government and other decision policy makers are kept informed of the views and aspirations of the youth.
